Page Numbers on Specific Pages – MS Word 2007

I always forget this, so may as well blog here just as a placeholder for myself, if no-one else.

Most of my coursework hand-ins have a cover page and a table of contents, and then the actual content. I always want the page content to start at Page 1, rather than the cover page being marked with a page number in footer.

In order to do this in MS Word 2007:

1. At the bottom of the Table of Contents Page, click ‘Page Layout’, then ‘Breaks’ and then select ‘Section Break – Next Page’.

2. On the next page, click ‘Insert’, then ‘Page Number’, and select the type of page number to insert.

3. Finally, in the Ribbon, in the ‘Navigation Section’, unselect the ‘Link to Previous’. Then format the page number to start at this page.
